Describe Your Image – I shred because I love being surrounded by beautiful mountains, admiring them for a few minutes and then skiing on their slopes. The weather is wonderful and there are few people on the slopes, so I can go a little fast to enjoy even more my skidays.

Woooow! Resi Stiegler, one of the original gang of Shred Optics’ athletes, has done something today that many would have counted out: a full recovery from several massive leg fractures over 3 years to once again stand on a World Cup Podium.

She defied those odds and scored a 2nd place Slalom finish in Ofterschwang, Germany today.

For anyone facing some rough times in their lives and have doubters left and right… read more about this story; there will be more written in the days to come, I’m sure.

Congratulations, Resi! Your work and dedication is an inspiration to shredders everywhere!

Just 19 years old, Shred and Slytech sponsored athlete Ryan Cochran Siegle wins gold today’s Men’s downhill starting with bib #1 on the Pista Direttissima – Monte Pratello, Italy. In an interesting coincidence, Ryan’s mom Barbara Cochran won gold in the Sapporo Olympics 1972 with bib #1. Seems to be a family lucky charm.

Surely conditions helped him today. With warm sun beating down on the hill, subsequent racers found themselves at a marginal disadvantage the later the day got. Said Ryan:

“The earlier you started today was definitely better. I had a good training the first day, but yesterday things didn’t work out, and I was not expecting a win like this. The run was good, I like the terrain here, and it’s a lot of fun.
Surely it’s special to have my mum here, winning in front of here makes me proud, and by taking the first win it definitely gives me more confidence for the coming races. I have good chances in super g, but in the technical races I will have to do my best”.

Congratulations, shredder Ryan Cochran Siegle for holding it down and beating a very formidable field of racers! Good luck in super G race coming up March 4th!

Wow, the results are in, and we have never seen such an amazing photo finish. There were many worth entries, but in the end, there were 2 that stood out and ran away with it.

We had Jamie Prebble’s entry with a pic of his buddy Pirmin Karbon crashing off a cliff in a botched 360 attempt. This pic scored very high marks with the judges, even a full 5 points with one of the judges (5 is the highest). Jamie held the votes down with very high totals.

Then we had Gerli Selge photo entry of breath-taking landscape in Hintertux, Austria. Gerli DOMINATED the votes. Crazy networker.

So here are the images that were neck and neck…

Jamie's buddy about to eat it baaaaad!

Hintertux Landscape

After all the votes were counted and all the judges scores tallied, we ran it through our special sauce algorithm and out came the winner…

Gerli Selge Hintertux!

It was really so so close. So close in fact that Jamie will be receiving a nice consolation prize that we think he’ll be stoked about.

So Gerli, you win a SHRED Helmet, Goggles, and Slytech Back Protector! Congratulations.

A quick note to all the other people who submitted before the deadline: If the photo quality was sufficiently good, we held off on publishing it this round and instead will be entering it into the NEXT round for which the winner will be announced  MARCH 16th, 2012.

I finally have something I’m excited enough about to share with fellow my Shredders.

The search for powder continues here in Colorado. It has been a challenging winter here for sure but I had a feeling deep down that my time would come where I was playing in bottomless POW…. That’s what we all want isn’t it? I searched high, low and everywhere in between. One night I had an idea that my girlfriend Tara and I should head south to my family cabin to do some exploring. Much to our surprise we found what i think is the best snow in Colorado. With 18 inches of fresh pow on top of 6 feet of untracked snow pack there were plenty of face shots to be had.

Thanks to Tara and the awesome camera I got her for Christmas we have some pictures to share with you.

Pray for snow
